This book takes us back to the first Olympics held in Australia - Melbourne 1956. There are stories about what was happening in world politics, and what was happening at home in Australia, about the country's most famous athletes (Betty Cuthbert, Dawn Fraser, Ron Clarke, Murray Rose, John Landy, Freddy Jones) and about others, from other places. The book has 150 black and white photographs taken during the Olympics, showing not only events and competitors, but also the spectators, the crowds. The book gives a snapshot of Australia in the 1950s and brings to life the excitement, energy and enthusiasm that developed around the Olympic games.
