High Water at Four by Jerrard Tickell
Ever since Appointment with Venus, some years ago, Jerrard Tickell has been writing agreeable if not very intriguing intrigues. This frivolity deals with Peter Millerton who loses both his ship (he's a young Commander) and his girl after a collision. On an impulse which proves to be more motivated than it seems, he is invited aboard a Greek magnate's oil tanker, delayed with it in a Russian controlled port, exposed to the lovely Ilona who, it is hoped, will seduce him into an infraction which will permit the Russians to seize the ship. They don't..... Probably all you can say for this is that it's escape reading in either sense of the word-- you may enjoy it and you won't remember it.
