Maritime Change edited by Babbage and Bateman

The maritime environment in the Asia-Pacific region has been changing rapidly over the past few years. "Maritime Change: Issues for Asia" addresses the important issues arising from such change, including the likely impact on the region of the demise of the Soviet Union, the potential for maritime arms control, prospects for peaceful resolution of the conflicting territorial claims in the South China Sea, the approach by regional countries to law of the sea issues, and the patterns of commercial shipping likely to develop during the 1990s and beyond. Regional perspectives of the maritime priorities of a range of Pacific nations are presented, providing an insight into the way in which individual nations perceive their role in the waters of the Pacific - with major implications for future trade and international relations for Australia.
