The letters provide an insight into the development of European settlement in Australia, as well as giving biographical information. Each letter includes a preface setting it in context. Includes sources, and an index of writers and recipients. The correspondents include William Bligh, Ludwig Leichardt, Rachel Henning, Charles Dickens, Miles Franklin, Norman Lindsay and Lloyd Rees. The compiler is a manuscript librarian at the Mitchell Library, NSW.
